Amarone della Valpolicella Riserva 2006
Score: 94
Release Price: $70
Country: Italy
Region: Veneto
Issue: Aug 31, 2011
A lovely wine, displaying overall style and elegance, as well as a core of intriguing spice flavours that are wrapped in layers of cherry compote, damson plum preserves, dark chocolate shavings and spicy tobacco notes. There’s fine integration here, with an overall vibrancy. The long, spicy finish shows just a hint of tannins. Drink now through 2026. 200 cases imported.

Amarone della Valpolicella 2007
Score: 91
Release Price: $41
Country: Italy
Region: Veneto
Issue: Aug 31, 2011
Shows more freshness-and less of a ripe, syrupy quality-than some of its peers, with a fine balance between juicy currant and tangy black cherry fruit and notes of tar, chocolate shavings and spice box. Features a fresh linen weight instead of the more typical Amarone velvet, and lightly chalky tannins show on the firm finish. Best from 2013 through 2023. 1,000 cases imported.
